Waterproofing / Preshrinking

Canvas tents require preshrinking when brand new. Shrinking causes the fibers to shrink, which in turns causes the weaves to tighten and create a better seal to increase its water proofing.
We recommend setting your new tent up, removing the mattress and hosing it down and letting it air dry before placing the mattress back in and storing it.

Cleaning & Preparing

Cleaning your tent regularly (every 3-6months of use, more or less depending on your environment) will help to improve the life of your tent! Cleaning your tent regularly will assist in cleaning and ensuring factors like humidity, UV exposure, dirt or insects that may of been missed on initial cleaning before storage have less of an impact on the state of your tent.
Any mold found on the tent must be addressed immediately to prevent further spreading, once mold is found to be in the mattress it is nearly impossible to remove it, therefor will need the mattress replaced.

Step by step recommended cleaning process:
1. Set up the tent and remove the mattress.
2. Starting from the inside wipe down the walls and floor of the tent before vacuuming the floor
3. Ensure all the flaps are closed on the tent including the small windows
4. Rinse the exterior and scrub with a soft brush or sponge starting from the top
5. Rinse again to ensure all residual from cleaning solution is removed
6. Let air dry before placing the mattress back in and rolling your tent back up.

Storage

When storing the tent ensure all the fly screen and canvas doors and windows are zipped closed. Make sure all poles and pegs are free of dirt. But most importantly,
NEVER PACK YOUR TENT AWAY WET!
Moisture build when stored can attract mold, leave a disgusting smell and destroy the mattress within the tent.
If you have to pack the tent up wet, ensure you unpack it to dry within 24hours.
Another consideration with keeping your tent dry and ready for the next use is storage location. Ensure the tent is stored in a cool dry place and avoid locations which could potentially pool water such as floor of a garage or basement.

Pack your tent away clean!
Vegetation and dirt contain moisture which can grow mold on the mattress or inside of the tent. Remove the mattress and sweep and wipe down the base of the tent before storage.
